In front of the coastline of Torre San Giovanni, a small islet emerging from the sea peeks out: it is called Isola di Pazze. Legend has it that right here, in the fifth century BC, a peace agreement was signed between the Greeks of Taranto and the Messapians of Ugento.
This is the reason why the island is also known as Isola della Pace (Island of Peace).
